PM Surya Ghar Rooftop Scheme FAQ's :
What is the main goal of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana?
The primary goal is to provide up to 300 units of free electricity per month to one crore households in India by installing highly subsidized rooftop solar power plants.
2. Who is eligible to apply for the scheme?
The applicant must be an Indian citizen who owns a residential house with a suitable rooftop. They must also have a valid electricity connection in their name and must not have availed any previous solar subsidy for the same system.
3.What is the subsidy amount available?
The Central Financial Assistance (CFA)/Subsidy is paid directly to the beneficiary's bank account after installation and inspection. The structure is:
* Up to 2 kW: ₹30,000 per kW (Max ₹60,000)
* Additional capacity (2 kW to 3 kW): ₹18,000 per kW
* Total cap for systems ≥3 kW: Maximum ₹78,000
* State subsidy in Uttar Pradesh is 30,000 Extra
4.How much rooftop area is required for a solar system?
Generally, a 1 kWp system requires about 10 square meters (approx. 100 sq. ft.) of shadow-free area. A 3 kW system would require around 30 square meters.
5.How do I get 300 units of free electricity?
By installing a solar system sized appropriately for your consumption (typically 2 kW to 3 kW for 150-300 units/month), you generate enough power to offset your bill. If you generate more than you consume, you can sell the surplus power back to the grid (via net metering) and receive credits or payment from the DISCOM.
